Houston – SEIU Texas joined calls from across Houston for an independent investigation and the release of all evidence surrounding the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo at the hands of immigration agents in Houston’s Magnolia Park neighborhood. Araujo was shot on the morning of Tuesday, July 7th.
The following statement is from Elsa Flores, president of SEIU Texas:
“Yesterday’s fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo extends a troubling pattern of masked agents coming into our communities, inflicting violence, and leaving us with nothing but unanswered questions. We can’t imagine the pain that his family must be going through. They deserve access to healing, justice and accountability.”
“We cannot let this mirror the aftermath of the Renee Goode and Alex Petti shootings, when disinformation proliferated in the absence of transparency. We are demanding an independent investigation and the full release to the public of all evidence related to the shooting, including any footage, radio calls, or witness statements.”
